    win 7 problem...

I am using win 7 professional edition.(Original).using Dell Inspiron 1564 Laptop
From the past few days the monitor automatically increases contrast and brightness.
When it occurs my monitor wont be clearly visible , i don't know how to set the brightness and contrast to default values.
And moreover i don't know whether it is problem with OS or with the hardware.

    Help!!!

Far as I know, Hardware. Check Dell's website for fixes; a friend of mine had a similar issue on his Dell laptop 2 or 3 years ago - they ended up returning the laptop to Bestbuy and getting a different model because Dell told him it might be a month before they got the fix published (it was in the works but not done yet).

Hopefully yours already has the fix out though.

Follow what Livewire suggested and also see if Dell has any updated drivers on their website. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 and I know that once in a blue moon I'll see the laptop running at minimum brightness as if I were on battery (I run max brightness on AC, min brightness on battery). It's a simple software glitch but it doesn't annoy me. Plus, the screen is WLED backlit so it isn't the warm up of the screen.
