Computers; Laptops and notebooks have less capabilities than a typical desktop, and therefore have lower specifications toward their models. Only high-end laptops can compete with the coolness of a PC, although the laptop is portable. Then again, I wouldn't want a person stealing my laptop on a train or something...

Also, PC's play games better, and laptops have that touchpad thing, which is very bothersome if you play an FPS game.

Depending on applications. Desktop is less expensive than laptop with same specification. They're easier to upgrade. But nowadays laptops' performance are reasonable and affordable, laptops out sells desktops. Check out your general discount stores like Target, Republic of China, -er I mean Walmart, Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, Best Buy, ... etc you could purchase laptops under $500 for all the performance you need for office work (assuming you are not a graphic artist or some video editor).

I remember the days when you purchase an affordable computer whether desktop or laptop and the resolution is lousy so you needed to upgrade your graphic or video card. Nowadays, the graphic card is reasonable. You get view an image with reasonable resolution.

Now it starts to get expensive when you want your laptop to play blu-ray, hi video resolution etc ...

All depends on what you are using it for. Desktops are more suitable for flexibility and power hungry apps than the general Laptop tends to be. I use my desktop a ton being a gamer.

    Re: Computer Vs Laptop/notebooks

About 5 years ago my desktop computer needed to be replaced. I realized that I needed my business to "go with me" at times when I am working outside the office or away from my desk for more than a few hours on personal business. I do a lot of business on the Internet, use the Internet for various management aspects of my business, and use my computer, (with or without Internet access), for many business related tasks. So, it was logical to purchase a good laptop computer and I have exclusively used a laptop since that time.

I found the keyboard and mouse difficult to work with but this issue was easily and inexpensively overcome by plugging in a full size standard keyboard and mouse when I am at my office. Sometimes I even take these items with me to other locations if I expect to be using the computer a lot. Also have a nice printer / scanner / copier / fax that I can plugin in a USB port as well as a 19 inch flatscreen monitor that plugs in to a HDMI port on the laptop, effectively turning the unit into a nice desktop computer when I am at home or the office.

This particular laptop that is not a "gaming computer" and not capable of playing popular games well, but that is not a problem for me due to the fact that I seldom play games. It will will play DVD discs, music discs and MP3's well and has nice sound, especially when hooked up to external speaker system.

So, I feel like I have the "best of both worlds" at this point. A very portable laptop that I can take with me anywhere and which can be quickly transformed into an acceptable desktop computer. And I did not spend a whole lot of money setting up this system.

    Laptop:

Love: the fact that I can take one anywhere and depending on the battery I can work for 1/2 the day away for the power point.
Hate: that it harder to repair the hardware if something go wrong, plus there are some thing you can't upgrade.
    Hate: cost more than desktop

    Desktop:
    Love: cheap
Love: build your own, and free you from the like of dell
Love: hardware can be replaced, not locked in to anything

Hate: can use up a lot of power
Hate: can't take it everywhere and won't run on battery.
Hate: can be rather hot and loud
