    Deleting corrupted files?

Well, like the good computer user I am, I pulled out my flash drive
one day without closing all the applications I had running off of it.
I was rewarded for my mistake with this:

Now, these files are all nonessential stuff. Don't need 'em, and they
aren't interfering with anything. However, I want them gone. Whenever
I try to delete/rename/cut/modify them via normal means (Explorer,
Command Prompt, etc.), I get an error - "Cannot delete file: Cannot
read from the source file or disk." I have tried using chkdsk. Does
anybody know how I can clear these away, preferably without
    reformatting my drive?

Have you tried deleting them in Safe Mode? If not, try it.

If it still doesn't work, try these two options:
    A:
    1. Open command prompt
    2. Cd to the drive/directory where the corrupted files are located
    3. Type "del *.*" without quotes

    B.
    1. End the process named explorer.exe via task manager
    2. Delete the files via file manager (Win+E) or via command prompt (Note: I just don't know if you can open the file manager when explorer.exe is killed)

if that doesn't work, copy the files you do need, then reformat the flash drive.

    Re: Deleting corrupted files?

Apparently the file allocation table is severely corrupted. The file stamps range from the year 1983 to 2103 !

In my opinion, even if you manage to delete the files from the command prompt, the FAT cannot be relied upon.

It would be best to completely reformat the pen-drive (NOT quick format), because this will create a new and self-consistent FAT and data area.
