There is more than one way to register a domain name. In the case of x10Hosting free hosting accounts, you would use the name servers:
ns1.x10hosting.com
ns2.x10hosting.com
with your domain registration, then remember to add your new domain to your hosting account settings here. When a user wants to visit your domain, it makes a request to a domain name server, which will point to your registered entry, and that, in turn, points to the name servers here, which directs the user's browser to your account.
