    Help! My computers dieing

sometimes, when I turn on my computer, I get a disk boot error and the computer makes a beeping noise. But if it does boot, when I click to login to my user it just powers off and then when I turn it on I get a disk boot error.
    And then sometimes it works!
Please help, I'm using XP SP2
    Thx

Here, freed from pain, secure from misery, lies
A child, the darling of his parents' eyes:
A gentler Lamb ne'er sported on the plain,
A fairer flower will never bloom again:
    Few were the days allotted to his breath;
Now let him sleep in peace his night of death.

Tried another hard drive in there?

I had a HDD fail and it made plenty of clicking noises. Luckily that was a 'spare' sitting on the shelf for a while so there was nothing on it... Back on topic: have you noticed any weird clicking noises coming from the PC prior to this?
The physics is theoretical but the fun is real.

    Re: Help! My computers dying

Check that both cables in the back of the hard disk are tightly connected, particularly the big gray one, the IDE cable. Also check the other end of this cable is plugged in tightly to the motherboard.

If that doesn't work, try a second hard disk. It may be that the disk is reaching the end of its life. If swapping the HD solved the problem, backup all your important data and use that HD.

Turn the PC off at the wall before opening it up and fiddling!

    Re: Help! My computers dieing

i've already ran chkdsk in safe mode & did a boot virus scan & a virus scan in safe mode... I'll try and see if the hard drive is properly connected because when I run chkdsk it says everythings good. There were no weird noises. I formatted the drive and reinstalled XP a month ago, so I know thats not the problem...
    thx

If pc's reboot too quickly, sometimes the disk controller doesn't reset.

There is another issue with windows MOST LIKELY, however it could be a hardware issue.
