Windows XP SP3?

Being a dedicated XP fan, and refusing to upgrade to Vista, there is some great news!

"Wellington, Fla.-based Devil Mountain Software ran several versions of XP and Vista through a test simulating common desktop computing tasks. It found the original Vista performed 50 percent to 100 percent slower than the prevalent XP Service Pack 2, or SP2.

Vista SP1, due out in the first quarter of 2008, barely improved the operating system's performance.

But XP SP3, scheduled for the first half of 2008, did improve on XP's earlier performance, running 10 percent faster than SP2."

I ought to buy up some OEM copies of XP on campus while I still can!

It's unfortunate that on June 30th of 2008, XP support will be dropped; but what support would you need for an operating system that is rock solid if maintained? Vista on the other hand..

they will make sp3 with lots of bugs, forcing people to install vista, since the support will be dropped, no sp4 or corrections to sp3 will be made

I enjoy a good conspiracy theory about microsoft, (mine is that sp3 just removes the sp2 slowdowns that they implemented to sell vista, which was slated to be released 'soon') That said, that wasn't the case with windows 2ks last service pack. If they do release a bad service pack, it certainly won't force people to vista, viva la revolucion.

Well, i don't care what anyone else thinks, i'm not going to Vista... it has to many limitations, anything you do, every 5 minutes, "You need admin privelages to do this would you like to enable them now?" So annoying... can't wait for SP3, although, will this also be released for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition? I hope so...

I haven't read on anything about XP's support being dropped, do you have a source for that? I've read that they were going to stop selling Windows XP in June 2008.

I sware, I'm going to go Linux if they don't sort out the problems with Vista. Eventually, we'll all have to upgrade. I like XP, but its kinda prodictable that it will just become massively insecure. And if Vista is STILL slow, then... well... Linux.

Windows XP has been solid since I've known. But the same cannot be said of Vista. I am glad that they are releasing the SP3....I read that they are not many GUI changes or so. But still it is something if not anything.

I guess I am one of the only few who half way like vista, it does have its downs, but its... ok... for a Microsoft product.

OMG! SP3! XP lives on but i'm kinda disappointed with Micro$oft because they should've put priority on this before Vista... Vista is an epic fail....

I'm interested to see if SP3 really does make that much difference. XP is so slow for booting anyways. My Ubuntu 7.04 boots fully in 20 seconds. :thefinger
