HELP! Windows Filesystem Errors

Well this sucks a bit. I didn't have the best laptop in the world, but I don't want to buy a new one when I have(had) a perfectly good one.

So anyways, started it up last night and it will get to the Windows Boot loading screen(the screen that says Windows XP and shows a blue(or green depending on your version) progress bar). After about 2-3 seconds of that loading screen the computer shuts down instantly, then turns back on(yes, this is a restart). Of course Windows carefully notifies me something went wrong and ask if I want to boot normally, with the last known good configuration, or in the various safe modes. I can choose any of these lovely options, but they all will result in the same silly loop of my computer restarting itself when trying to boot windows.

Well thanks to my handy dandy Sabayon Linux CD I can see that my filesystem has quite a few errors. If I try to scan my partition for errors(and fix if possible), it will take an hour or more to tell me it failed.

So I tried my Acronis Disk Director start up disc. The only thing I found was something that should list the errors for a partition, but that never loads anything in the error list, so that is useless.



And now I'm here. Who has any ideas of what I can do to repair these filesystem errors? It would have to be a bootable disc that can SAFELY repair file system errors. I have a lot of useful information including hours of updates for programs and games.

I would really appreciate some help here guys.

If you can't get to your PC to boot in Safe Mode, you made need to try a repair installation. Just boot from the Windows XP boot disks, or insert the CD-ROM and choose the repair option from the installation screen.

The only disc I have that came with my laptop are simply for a clean install of windows. I can't seem to find anything that is solely for repair windows itself and leaving my files intact.

I also just tried the super grub disc, but no positive results there. Didn't think it was going to be of much use anyways, but I have to try everything.

Yea, Acer is strange. I only have a recovery DVD(and CDs). The DVD is the only one that boots and that starts up a recovery mode that formats drive C: and installs windows and the factory software again.
