Diagnosing a possible hardware problem.

K, normally I'd guess video card, but I'm not positive that's actually the cause right now.


I'm getting ahead of myself though. Earlier this evening (like, WAY earlier), my monitor seemed to slowly start to tint the screen blue, then flicker back to normal. The third time it did this, I cracked my computer on the side, and it stopped tinting, and actually became brighter than it had been all evening.

Again, normally I'd guess video card, but is this maybe something else? I wasn't aware that physically punching the side of a computer case would fix bad hardware. I don't think it does actually, so what should I start looking at besides a bum monitor or video card?

I'd think it is a 'bum' monitor.

Have any super strong magnets around? That'll definitely interfere with CRTs; did you try degaussing it?

Degaussed several times actually.

The part that's making me think it isn't the monitor is I bashed the computer, NOT the monitor, with my fist; hitting the computer shouldn't make a monitor on a separate desk stop mis-functioning :S

Monitor hasn't acted up since I cracked the pc too. Spoke with a guy at work and he thinks it might be "Card Creep..." What in the name of Zeus's giant spork is card creep, and could it theoretically cause a video glitch like that?

Maybe your card was loose and you knocked it into place? Heh I figure as long as it works, I leave it alone and keep it that way!

Just got back from a reboot where it stopped working.


It's a bad thing if I take the side panel off and the video card FALLS OUT OF THE AGP SLOT right >_<




Think based on what Google is saying card creep is that this thing's maybe just seen one too many reboots and it worked itself loose. Or when it wasn't working right last week and I kicked it, I knocked the card loose (that might've done it <_<).


It's fixed though, for now. Keeping the topic open in case the problem comes back in 24 hours. I'll lock it after that; still rather shocked that the thing fell out when I took the panel off >_<


Edit: Well something else is broken now, but it's software related so this'n can be closed (apparently I can't close it because it's been open too long, the option's not there for me to close it >_<).
