Confused :S I need a new procesor, help!

Hey guys, i wanted to ask you guys a question.

Im thinking of building my own PC- no renew this little old PC..

Im planning of getting a core2duo processor but im cofused, see there a store here in Chile, that sell this product

    CPU ITL C2D E4600 2.4/800/2048/775 Price $ 110.700
At 110.700, its about 200.00 USD. By the description i see its a Intel CPU Core2Duo, 2.4 GHZ per core, and the rest what is it? E4600?/800/2048/775 ?

    And there is another one

    CPU ITL C2D E6550 2.33/1333/4MB/775 Price $ 130.730

And here i see its a Intel CPU Core2Dup, 2.33 GHZ per core.. and the rest?

So my question is do those other numbers mean? and why is it the 2.4 GHZ cheaper than the 2.33 GHZ? isnt it suppose to be the other way around?

    Thanks!

The first part (CPU ITL C2D E4600) is just the name and model number.

The second part (2.4 or 2.33) is the clock frequency, in GHz

The third part (800 or 1333) is the front-side bus clock frequency, in MHz.

The fourth part (2048 or 4MB) is the L2 cache. 2048 means 2048 kB, or 2MB. The one with 4MB has twice the cache.

The fifth part (775 in both processors) is probably referring to the socket they use. They both use the LGA775 socket.

Assuming the motherboard you are getting has a 1333MHz FSB (front-side bus) I would get that processor. The FSB will make a huge difference in performance. That processor also has a larger cache, which can also be a major impact on performance.

The slight dropoff in the processor's clock frequency will be more than made up for by the second one's faster FSB and larger cache.
