Smile Wubi -- Windows Ubuntu Installer

Now for those windows users, who want to learn LINUX but afraid of typical installations and commands to use LINUX, here is the solution for you. Now you can install Linux in your Windows Machine as any other windows application. Yes, here is solution from Ubuntu. A Windows based installer for Linux. You just have to select the partition where you want to install linux , choose username and password and that's it. Installer will download and install Linux for you. You don't have to bother for anything. It will reboot your system and that's it.Linux is installed. It's real installation of Linux. Now you can access your windows data from linux also.

For more details, you can just check the following website:
    http://wubi-installer.org/

I would like to share one thing here, if you are cracked version of Vista, it might not work for you.

It's a proper dual boot, but rather than partitioning, it boots from a disk image.

I've never used such things - I always wipe my disk.
Also, Ubuntu is not a good learning distro. If you want to learn, use a proper distro like slackware. Yeah, it's harder, but you learn better!

I agree with you fahadsadah that if you wanna learn hardcore linux you should go for slackware. But here is very less people who like to work harder otherwise Linux would be more popular than WINDOWS.

I've used wubi, and it's fine. of course you're not using a native linux filesystem; however, it's a SAFE way to unbuntu. However, if you have your existing windows on a drive other that C:, be prepared to use the windows recovery console if you ever uninstall unbuntu/wubi. My OS is F: and upon uninstall, i could no longer boot. Using the windows CD in recovery mode and running FIXBOOT (I believe) repaired my bootup.

sternius ! I have also used wubi. But it worked as smooth as wine. I installed it on D drive whereas windows was installed on C drive. I uninstalled ubuntu like a simple application software and it didn't affected WINDOWS too.

Well my Windows OS boots as drive F:, drive C: does not exist in my configuration (by choice). Wubi/Ubuntu was installed to my drive G:, then upon uninstall, F: would not boot but was EASILY remedied.

you can install any desktop environment within windows. Now a days, Version 8.10 onwards, ubuntu linux is being shipped with in-built installer for windows and the good news is it costs nothing,it's totally free.

But free cds od Xubuntu are not available. You can download it easily
