Windows XP is taking 2 minutes to boot

I have a (relatively) new computer (Fujitsu Siemens SCALEO PI 2664), which I have installed on Windows XP (Vista had too many problems). Well, since yesterday it takes more than 2 minutes. The day before when shutting down windows it installed these updates:

what startup programs are you running ?

you can check by running the following program
C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\msconfig.exe
and select the startup tab then post what applications are starting up

You can uncheck jusched (java updater, doesnt need to be running 24/7)
You can uncheck MSN messenger if you don't use it
Not sure what a lot of those other services are..

Are you running SP3? If not install Bootvis

This arranges your boot files on your hard disk in such a way that your PC can access them much quicker, SP3 has something similar built in, but this is good for any older versions of XP. Also do clean your registry!

Did it now (Using CCleaner), gonna edit post with new boot time (if changed)

Edit: ~30 seconds now, guess registry cleaning and disabling java update did it. Guess it's solved now.

1st. ccleaner.com > do the registry cleaner.
2nd. Eusing.com > registry cleaner.
3rd. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb897426.aspx > set for for next boot or better yet, every boot.

try http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php just in case.


and yes, take some of those startup out. you can use ccleaner for this too: Tools>Startup.

You seem to have a lot of startup entries. IF you're saying the boot time as in the time it takes for the XP logo with the moving bars takes to disappear and to go into the login screen, if you count the bars, on a decent PC it shouldn't take any more than 7 bars to boot. But if anything, I would remove some of those startup entries you have. Also, if you're not using the Google software, just remove it.

I'd clean out all temporary directories, disable a bunch of un-needed startup entries, do a hard drive defrag, and registry defrag (with Tune-Up Utilities), and check to see if you had any viruses...

You don't need all that stuff loading on system startup...
I would also remove stuff you don't use... that can help a lot...

I don't even really have anything auto run on my computer except my anti virus, and my Novell stuff... lol
