GIMP is my preference. It's very similar to Photoshop and it hasn't failed me yet.

i love paint.net! i find it faster than most editors and you can get free plugins to expand it's functionality!! too bad it doesn't run on linux.

I'd prefer Photoshop (I know it's not free), but when it comes to free... I selected Gimp.

Same as Max I like photoshop too. But instead of GIMP I like paint.net better.
    *Off Topic*
I wonder why my school tablet has paint.net?

First off I must state this is really two separate polls. one is image editing/art the other is 3d design you can't compare the two.

that being said Id choose the Gimp for Image Editing.

Re: Free Software Poll 5: Image Editors

gimp is by far the most powerful free editor out there. paint.net is easier to use and much simpler, but if you can figure out how to use gimp, you'll never want to lay eyes on paint.net again (I'm not at all saying that pain.net is bad, I use it all the time. but that's only because I'm having a hard time learning how to do things in gimp. gimp could improve their help files abit)

For editing, The GIMP all the way. Near Photoshop, allowing high quality for complex jobs. If you're just doing minor touch ups, Paint.NET would do. Blender for 3D work.
