    Suggestion for NYC subway

Before you say that I'm crazy or this isn't work or succeed listen to my idea first.

The suggestion that I am thinking is based on all computer based trains which are: R143, R160, R110A, R142/R142A, and R110B. I don't if this will work on the older, retired trains. Also you can read about these trains in http://nycsubway.org.

The plan that I am thinking of is that if all of these trains are running computers then they are probably running MySQL or some other database system to hold all the information such as stations, announcements, and so on. If they can run MySQL then they probably can run Java as well. The point of my idea is to use lazer technology. The point of this is to install lazers to all signals, stations, trains and so on, so it can send encrypted messages to trains so manual annoucements don't have to be made and making rearrangements to maintenance (switching stations, tracks, you get the point or do you?).

But the con of this is that it takes very long for this to be made such as getting new software and hardware. Such as a supercomputer that can handle sending at least 1000 encypted messages/second or minute. Another con is that many jobs will be lost such as conductors. (Don't know a lot about these jobs)

If you still do not know the plan for this then post a question and I will answer. If you were wondering how I got this idea I'm just going to say that I have a big imagination and I was just taking a train. lol

I was thinking the same thing!

No, not really. But it's a decent idea.

Can't they just use blue tooth? or infrared? Aren't those easily attatchable through cheap dongles? and instead of sending all the commands at once couldn't it do like say 10 at a time?

First of all, no one would be using MySQL for any major production project.

Second of all, you should spend more time explaining what you mean about lazers. If what you are talking about is "LASER"s (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation), then that would be pointless when you could just use radio waves, which are less harmful.

Furthermore, it sounds like you are talking about an automatic broadcasting system (already been done) and having that be added to the rail system (again already been done). For one in the United States, visit Washington DC. If you want a more superior rail system, visit Japan.

Why not MySQL? Also I know that the automatic broadcasting system exists but instead of conductors making maintenance announcements there would announcements made from the HQ. Also I wasn't considering health at time. Never was thinking about it that much even knew that lazers that that much damage until you mentioned it.

    Actually, MySQL is stable enough.

I think such things are sent wirelessly to the trains already.

And even if they aren't, an upgrade that large would not be easy.

    1. I was thinking about MySQL after I thought about the signs being updated through every stop.

    2. I know about wirelessly but it is a problem when messages (maintenance) have to be sent manually.

    3. I agree with you 100% on that one.
