    Auto-Tune in Music

What do you feel about auto-tune becoming more and more popular in music? Does it steal from musicians (namely vocalists) who have actual talent, or is it another tool that somebody with the proper knowledge can utilize to further their artistic vision?

Whenever I turn on the radio in the car, I notice that annoyingly inhuman voice piercing through the speakers. Personally, I am torn over this phenomenon, because in some respects I find that I cheapens popular music to an all-new low, devoid of lyrical emotion, and yet at the same time people can use it extremely creatively in the context of their art, creating something entirely new.

Some artists who have made auto-tuning software popular include T-Pain and Kanye West, while other vocalists use it to a lesser degree in the studio (i.e. Cher, or your favorite heavy metal vocalist).

It is a new tool, in the toolbox of musicians. It will become ubiquitous then some or a few will do amazing things with it, because that's what people do.

I guess, to make an analogy, auto-tune to musicians is like Adobe Dreamweaver to web designers. It sure is helpful and can be extremely useful, but then amateurs will rush to it and prove that in the end it is the creative process that matters, not who or how it is created.

Personally I prefer notepad.exe for my designing needs. ;)
