    Global Warming

What do you think about global warming? Does it exsist or not? I think it's exsisting and we are causing it.

    Re: Global Warming

I think that it's part of a natural cycle from the last ice age, and there's no way of assessing whether any species is having any effect, based on there being not much to compare it to!

Michael Crichton - State Of Fear is a pretty good book with loads of references on global warming etc if you wanna read up on it... And it's a good read too. And Wikipedia has bucketloads of information, a rather large page of scientists who oppose Global Warming theory, and an equally large page of those who agree with it.
The physics is theoretical but the fun is real.

I too believe its a natural cyle.
I believe I read somewhere that during the last ice age the CO2 concentration was higher then it is atm.

I don't think we are in any imminent danger as of now....If it reaches dangerous levels, then we can think about it. Why do we have to break our heads over it???

    Re: Global Warming

Ah global warming...such a fun topic...even if the entire globe isn't warming. I've also heard it called climate change, which is just as fun because the climate has always been changing.

It is happening, but I'm not sure we have that much to do with it. Jupiter's climate is also changing, and last I checked, no humans live there. I believe Mars' ice caps are melting faster than ours...again, no humans there.

What Al Gore said in his movie and what I've seen in so many documentary is that the greenland ice will melt down in the sea and cause the Gulf Stream to stop and cause an iceage over europe btw 2010 and 2020. This happened year 1300 too when the ice over east canada melted down in the ocean. I think it should happen naturaly but we humans causing it to happen faster than it would have.

I agree, as it takes time to change and/or prevent it.

    Re: Global Warming

Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases, Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) and some nitrogen thing *I personally don't know the makeup*, which create a layer on the earth atmosphere. These gasess are produced from burning of fossil fuels, oil, coal, fuel and so on. The production of these gases creates that layer on the earths atmosphere. Now as the sunlight comes from the sun into the earth, it goes in and now when it goes out, half of that heat is trapped by this layer formed by the greenhouse gases and the rest leaves the earths atmosphere. Now this heat which is trapped inside is causing a rise in temperatures worldwide which causing the polar ice caps to melt. Also global warming has nothing to do with the o-zone layer.

    ---

Personally, I believe it has been quite a major problem in the past 5 years. Even though there is no statistical data of about 200 years ago to compare the temperature of the earth now and back 200 years ago I still believe its a big issue in society these days. I mean when the new generation grows up and the old generation dies they've lived their happy days although we now seem to face more problems than ever before. I mean we will suffer the impacts of global warming if people nowadays don't decide to do something. Maybe not use but are children for sure. There is the Kyoto protocol which seems to help a little but thats only in Europe. USA is the biggest greenhouse gas producer. Although China has began to find other alternatives i.e the Three Gorges Dames, in Shanghai which are totally using renewable resource and will prove like 12 % of china's electricity power, cmon that a lot of damn power for a big country. America hasn't done jack ****, they just chit chat and thats it. Considering alternative fuels, nuclear which is very risky, i mean if it blows up huge radius of people get pwned in half and toxicated so its dangerous.

By the way, I am from America. So don't call me Racist or some crap like that. This is a huge issue and we *America* are doing CRAP about it...

You think we can stop a climate change?

Thats like saying, if we all run in the same direction at the same time we can stop the earth from turning.

Obviously thats a load of bull.
