Similar Post Feature

I think we should add this feature to the forums. If anyone has used StackOverflow, you should know what I'm talking about.

Its when you are typing into the "Title" for a new topic, that any similar topics are display below, in an AJAX type of way. (picture the google suggest like search)

I think this will limit the number of redundant posts.

Also, any "sticky" topics or any topics posted by an admin, mod, or a user with "authority" should take precedent over other topics.

And with this system, there should be no excuse for a redundant post, other than ignorance or they really have a legit problem that was not included in the post.


I will see if I can find a mod that is already created, but to make does not seem like much hard work. Mainly getting a tutorial on how to do the "AJAX suggest like" and putting it into the post_bit. But you never know.

It's a good idea. I'll make sure Corey sees it.

One thing though, since forums are official support there's bound to be a few threads with similar/same problem. Some of them might be necessary as some issues are account related. In some cases even though they got the same issue/question (wanting to add a cname for instance) they need to have their own thread in order to get it solved.

i have noticed at the bottom there is a little "Similar Threads" widget. so if we could just take that code, and implement it with the AJAX, and some tweaks, I think its all good. =]
