Suggestion to improve the sign-up process

I have joined almost 2 days ago and still waiting for an account to be created.

I think you can make people less anxious if you showed how many other requests for account creation are in the queue ahead of them. That way new users like me could see that indeed there is a backlog and also that the line in front of us is getting shorter (or not). The "View Progress" would make sense and "Update" button would actually be useful.

Obviously estimate of time remaining would be great but that is probably too unpredictable. After all, we are getting what we pay for...

Don't know if finding out about the queue size is easy or not but I bet it would save all those 'where the hell is my account' posts.

Got my account created in a bit over 48 hours. It took longer than I was hoping for but it was well worth it. Everything works great and I am one happy camper.

    Thanks

Yes, on the IRC people were reporting an issue with signups saying it is taking particularly longer than usual. Usually signups take a couple of hours, but in rare situations (such as a server fault) it can take approximately 48 hours.

I like the idea of a progress button, but it might not actually be necessary; it's only a few hours or a couple of days that users have to wait.

As has been mentionned earlier, the processing speed of the system queue depends on which servers are online, how filled they are, how much backlog there is, if we paused processing. All these variables makes it very hard to accurately predict the estimated time of any action being accomplished, and we'd hate to end up like the file copy (or installation) progress bar (those things are off more often then not). Also, in most circumstances, accounts are created almost instantly. However, we will think about including a notice about the creation time for new accounts.

Bryon is currently recoding the signup process to my left as I am typing this. There are a lot of changes being worked on at the moment, the signup process being one of them.
