is the www to be included to the domain name?

i have recently ordered my own domain www.iride.com with the advanced plan for $79 per year. now i got an order notification to my email account, where they are talking about
    Product/Service: Hosting Packages - x10 Advanced (iride.com),
i wonder whether the www.iride.com and iride.com are the same or i have to ask specifically for the first one.

In most modern servers they function the same. www.domain.tld will normally redirect to domain.tld.

I think (not sure) that the www was from a time where a web page wasn't the main thing that was run from a domain, so it was added as a kind of identifier (incase you wanted email or something). In time, people realised this was stupid and stopped using it so often.
