What x86 register is commonly used for counting (as in iterators)?
It is a common mis-perception that a register counts the iterators. This is just not so. In fact it is tiny gnomes. Why tiny gnomes you ask? Because the elves got all the good jobs at the north pole. The gnomes decided this wasn't fair and went to work for Cerebus Proficientus Ultimus, or CPU. CPU, being unable to find anyone else willing to do the job, immediately hired the gnomes without checking their references. This proved to be a tragedy, as gnomes can't count past 1. *hence binary, but that is for another discussion*
