Help with beginning page on my site

I started the site for our PeeWee football team.
I am using Dreamweaver and I have the FTP working to download to it.
I was making a mistake that I didn't have the index file under public_html. I had them under the root. When you pop into my site, it have the files located there.
Any ideas?

thx

Hey Mike,

You're gonna have to place the files under public_html or www, another way to upload them is to login to cPanel, and use the file manager.. If there are alot of files, zip them up, upload the zip file and then use the unzip feature inside of the file manager.
Edit:
err actually, didnt look at the site before I replied.. name the Index.html file index.html

Re: Help with beginning page on my site

Hi,

I am still having trouble with this. I must be very dense.
1. In the beginning, I tried downloading with my name "cragdire" and my password to get online with x10. I could never talk with the server with Dreamweaver. I started cking around the site and found the CPanel. I never put in a password, and I put one there. Now I could test for my server. After I could do this, I had my site under 1 way which added the assets folder (which you see) and the index.html. How do I clear everything out to start over again. I removed the mp3's from my assets on Dreamweaver, but it still shows here.
I did change the Index. html to index.html. Now nothing loads. I have cked on the site looking for the exact same problem but havn't found it. Can I have x10 to clear this out, or should I start completly over again.

thx

Mike

you must have to put something in your index.html file. you can put your html codes there. your index.html file will appear in the brower once a visitor logged to your site. you can put your sitemap there.

Example:
you have a certain file, and you want that file to appear first once a visitor logged at your website. You must have to rename that certain file into index.html, so that it will appear in their browser when they logged to your website.

Hi Anivide,

Yes, I got that far. I know it needs to be a index.html. I guess it really matters if the first letter is a i rather then and I.
I still changed that, but it didn't make a difference. I went to my account and changed the name to a different extension. Its not x10hosting anymore.
Now it comes up and the changes I have made. That's good, but dreamweaver gives me an error every time I ck for my testing server. Here is my URL
http://canegray.exofire.net/public_html/
Dreamweaver says it can't talk to this url. I get a http error 12029.
I guess I don't understand what they need here.
Any ideas?

Mike Davis

PS. Thx for everybody's help!

public_html is not part of the url. That is the name of the directory where the top level files are located.
If you have coaches.html in public_html, the url will be

http://canegray.exofire.net/coaches.html
Nothing is always absolutely so.
