Mysql not getting connected

I am using the following php code to connect to the database that i have created.:dunno:

$host = "localhost";
$username = "ymchaitu_chaitu";
$password = "pasword";
$db = "md5";

mysql_connect($host,$username,$password) or die(mysql_error());
mysql_select_db($db) or die(mysql_error());
mysql_close;

but when i am accessing my site :rant2: i am getting this error. can any one help me out..:lockd:
