Wordpress MU mod_rewrite error

I have a site using Wordpress MU. When I set my permalinks to anything besides default I get a 404 error. This article (http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks) says the Apache mod_rewrite module is required to enable "pretty" permalinks. Can someone help me get the permalinks to work?

mod_rewrite is enabled on all of our servers for all users.

If you are getting 404 errors, you may want to try clearing your browser's cache and visit your website again, as your browser may be displaying an older stored version of a specified URL instead of loading the most recent version.
