SMTP doesn't work help

I can't get the SMTP mail sending to work on free x10hosting.com account. I managed to install all the necessary PEAR modules so that it doesn't give an error for that. Instead I get this error on any host I try:

Failed to connect to mail.inet.fi:25 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Connection timed out (code: -1, response: )].

I can't even use the x10hosting's own e-mail account. And the problem shouldn't be in the code, it works fine on my own pc's server (Apache + php).

I can't seem to get my blog to connect to Gmail's SMTP servers. This feature requires fsockopen to be enabled, so I'm assuming it has to do with that being disabled or not yet enabled on the new servers.
