Slow sql

Hi ,why sql querries are taking sooooo long?
At first I thought it would be because of the high traffic, but I tried to run a php script to shorten the displayed text, and I got suspended for high resource usage...

Is it because of the free hosting account? if yes will there be a major difference if I upgrade my account?

anyone? I'm planing an upgrade on my website, and I can't run it if sql is that slow...!
