Are you saying each file is over 1GB? That can't be right. Are you trying to upload an archive containing all the files? Are you uploading them all at once?
The free X10 servers aren't set up for hosting large media files. You could host everything else here (including your podcast feed), but place the audio files themselves elsewhere. A web search should turn up better media servers.
There currently is no file size quota imposed on files. The file system has its own limits which are well above 17 MB. You could be running in to network problems. Try uploading the file from another computer with a different internet connection.
