Question internal error due to file size?

    Greetings,

I have been using x10hosting for a non-profit group's website. Occasionally, we have newsletters. Our editor sent me the spring 2011 newsletter to put on the site. It is 6MB and a Word doc (though I tried it as a PDF as well). Anyway, I was able to put it in the appropriate folder using FTP, and then I linked to it on our newsletter page. The problem is that when I click on the link to open the file, it gives me an internal server error 500. I'm guessing that it is because the file is 6MB (the next biggest file is 1.6MB, and there aren't issues with that). The problem is that I have tried to to reduce the file size by compressing the pictures in the document, but nothing seems to work. Thus, is there any way to allow for larger files to be downloaded? Here is my site: http://hfes-sttg.elementfx.com/?q=newsletter so you can see that it is a legit site and not just a site used for transferring files.

Please help me if you can!

    Thanks,
    Nate

I do not see the file that corresponds to the latest newsletter on the path that is linked in your newsletter.

I do not believe that the filesize would be the problem though.

Re: internal error due to file size?

Thanks for checking! The link is to the Spring 2011 newsletter (http://hfes-sttg.elementfx.com/sites...2011spring.pdf). I've tried it in Firefox and Safari, but both give me the internal error message. I also got the file down to 2.5MB, but it still won't download

Let me know if you still can't see what I'm seeing. I don't think it's because I'm logged into my site because I tried it in a different browser in which I wasn't logged in.

    Thanks again,
    Nate

I see the error same as you, but I do NOT see that file (2011spring.pdf) inside the files folder, which could be a reason for the error.

Something is also misconfigured in your .htaccess file too.

Trying to load http://hfes-sttg.elementfx.com/nosuchpage.html should give a 404 error or redirect to the homepage (index.php) , not throw a 500 error.
    Nothing is always absolutely so.

    Anna,

Wow, this is embarrassing. You were correct. I didn't realize that I was putting the file in the wrong directory! It now works (though I'm still going to look into that htaccess issue that descalzo mentioned).

My apologies for taking up your time! Thanks for your willingness to help.

    Best,
    Nate
