I upload my own \"index.html\" file into the public_html directory (the web root) and all it ever says is
Default Web Page

Nothing is wrong with the service. Since your account was created today, the problem you were experiencing was due to the fact that your account's domain choice was still being processed. Once every few hours, the server rebuilds a listing of what domains are in use on the server so that it knows how to handle a request for a particular domain. If it doesn't have information on your site yet, the Default Web Page comes up.

Right now I see a directory listing on your site. Try uploading your files and see if it will start working for you. Keep in mind, if you do get any Error 500 messages, make sure none of your permissions are 777. 755 should be the permissions for folders, and 644 files.
