Attempting to set up Wordpress, destroyed wordpress! Please help.

    Hello help desk!

James Fahy here, I've recently registered jamesfahy.x10.mx and used wordpress to set up a pretty spiffing site; until this morning. I want to use my domain (james-fahy.com) as the base of my Wordpress... and when I used the instructions in this article:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

I kept everything the way it was (only copied files, never deleted etc). Sadly, when I finished the process, I was getting this:

    404 Not Found
The server can not find the requested page:

    jamesfahy.x10.mx/jameswp/wp-admin/index.php (port 80)
Please forward this error screen to jamesfahy.x10.mx's WebMaster.

What have I done?! Messing with forces beyond my control. If you could please help me fix this, I'd really appreciate it.

    Thank you!

    James Fahy

What directory did you originally install WP in?

What directory did you want WP to be in now?

Please post the contents of the .htaccess of that directory, of public_html, and the directory you want it to end up.
    Nothing is always absolutely so.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply!

I originally installed it to jameswp. I copied everything in that folder to a new folder called 'wordpress'. I would like retain the site in it's original folder (as if nothing had changed) ie.

I originally installed it to jameswp and I'd like to to be in jameswp.

as far as I can tell, there is no .htaccess in that folder, and in the public_html folder the .htaccess contains no information.

    Thanks again,

    James

I copied the contents of the jameswp folder in the new wordpress folder, and then copied all of that into the /home/jmfahy directory.

I made copies of index.php and .htaccess and moved them to the /home/jmfahy directory.

And I changed the new /home/jmfahy/index.php file by changing require('./wp-blog-header.php') to require('./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php')

I also changed something in wordpress, setting my home page as james-fahy.com instead of jamesfahy.x10.mx

    Only just thought of this!

    Hello again,

I'm just going to uninstall WP and try again, no worries!

    Catchya,

    J
