Error message when trying to update akeeba backup for joomla

    hi ya guys
im not sure this question is in the right forum?
but i keep getting an error message when trying to use the update
button inside joomla for the akeeba back up module?
i know that my ftp is configured corectly but it still keeps telling me it one of two errors?

Downloading the update package failed. Make sure that your temp-directory is writable or that you have enabled Joomla!'s FTP options in your site's Global Configuration.

i know the temporary folder is writable as ive installed other modules through it ?
and the ftp acount and path to it im sure is corect and is switched on in global config?

im wondering if there is a need for a http conection on port 80 as well?
i hope its not a firewall issue as i know its blocked for most http access on port 80?

any help would be great and thanks once again for your patience
