Image question

Hello, so i read through the TOS, and i am still a little unclear about this. Is it okay if i have my own imagehost php script? It will be strictly related to my website of course. I upload a lot of images for tutorials and such, and it would be really great for me to have one like this. If you guys need an example of what it is, its like this: http://tinyurl.com/6kg69nh Some of my users want it also to upload their profile pictures and such. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Nice that you posted a question before you implement the scripts.
TOS is tricky in all ways as it needs to cover all clauses in a few sentences.Now when it comes to your script, you(your or your script or your users) can upload only that material which is yours/for which you have definite copyright permissions/those images & videos which abide to the terms and conditions.
Note:
The following are definitely not allowed and may lead to a ban:
Obviously obscure images- porn/human or animal intercourse
abuse images
images with written content for which the language is not allowed according to TOS
etc.,
There are more variations of which the TOS says that X10hosting will not allow.
So be witty and use x10hosting according to the terms and conditions only.

Ask yourself the following questions:
1. Can any user upload any number of files? (aka if I'm just a normal user, can I upload 300 files?)
2. Is the combined size of all of your images going to exceed 1GB?
3. Does your usage of the images constitute a copyright violation according to United States law? (aka you don't own the rights AND it does not fall under Fair Use)?

If the answer to any of the above is "yes", then it won't be allowed here. Note for #1 uploading something like a profile pic is fine because that's only 1 file. Allowing everyone to upload any number of files is considered file hosting, which is not allowed.

Oh well is there a way to limit a folder size?

Not that I'm aware of, but 1GB is a lot of screenshots. At my resolution (1440x900), each screenshot is around 150KB when saved as a .png. Assuming that filesize is nearly constant, I can upload 6990 screenshots and still stay under 1GB of space.

EDIT: Keep in mind point #1 though. A site like the site you just linked to in your original post would NOT BE ALLOWED, since it lets anyone upload any number of files, and thus falls under the guise of file hosting.

If you're asking how to make public file hosting okay in your site, then there's nothing that will make it okay since it's clearly forbidden as outlined in the TOS. If you're asking about something different, then could you please clarify your question?

That will depend on what you know about scripting or what the instructions/creator of your upload script says about it. Unfortunately, we don't provide support for third-party scripts.
