Cron job and webmail question

I've got two simple questions.

I'd like to run a php script as a cron job to backup my site and db, so I'd like a bit of help with the proper syntax to run a php script as a cron job. Also would it be able to use the php mail function to mail me the results of the backup?

Secondly can I get my sites webmail linked to mail.mysite.x10.mx?
