Cannot Login with User Names

When I login the login screen says to enter my email address or username(s). While the email address works, when I enter either my site user name or forum user name and attempt to login with the appropriate pw an error message comes back indicating 'wrong User Name or Password'.

Just wondering why this doesn't work - contrary to on-screen guidance.
