index.htm Not Opening As Default Page

My website's home page is kept in a files called /site, rather then being in the main public_html directory. I have a file called index.htm in my public_html folder, and I set it up through cPanel to redirect to the /site directory. However whenever I go to http://[mydomain].exofire.net, it won't open the index.htm file, therefore it won't redirect to the front page of my website. The redirect is working, because when I go to http://[mydomain.exofire.net/index.htm, it'll take me to the /site directory of my website. In my public_html folder, there is only one file with the index name in it. So what page is my website opening, and why won't it open the index.htm file it should?

FileManager or FTP to public_html,

edit .htaccess so you have a line:

DirectoryIndex index.htm index.html index.php
