Changing the access to my page

Hello. I am using the php nuke platinum system for my page. The only way I can get the home page is if I type http://www.xxxxxxx.xxx/index.php

My problem is that I wish to be able to just type http://www.xxxxx.xxx and be directed to the home page. Any ideas on how to do that? I don't really know where I need to put some files.
