Request To Open A Port(please read)

    Dear staff members,
I recently came to know about your great hosting service and created an account here.
I am running a small personal site for sending messaging using my account on a kannel based sms gateway.
The gateway requires me to send the sms requests to it via http on port 13014.
You can easily check that his port is quite commonly used for kannel sms gateways.
As the port is blocked by your good firewalls my cURL just times out.
So I request you to kindly allow using that port to me. I just need to make outgoing connections. Only a link containing the request is send using the http get method and a single line text response is fetched.
I hope that you'll definitely consider my request.
My site is password protected for the members so I am giving a id and pass for the staff members to see the web end of the site.
    Username: x10staff
    Password: checking

It you need any more clatificatin of details them please ask me before making your decision.
My site is only sends sms to an Asian country where the gateway is located. Users will also be from that country.

More info about kannel sms gateway can be found here:
    www.kannel.org

There documentation will be able to clear your doubts regarding the port, if any.

So please allow me to use the port for which I'll be thankfull to you.

    Hoping for the best...

    Hi technotiger53,

Firstly, please do not post your password here as all support tickets are in the public forums. Please edit out your password immediately.
Secondly, I do not think that we will be willing to open this port as this is not supported on x10Hosting free but it is on Premium (not sure) and VPS (definitely). However, a staff member will be able to confirm this, even though it is highly unlikely we will permit non-standard ports on our free hosting.

Thanks for the reply. That password is for viewing the site from the web as my site needs authentication. It is not my hosting password.I'll wait for staff members to confirm...I saw some topics where ports were opened on request.

Where were these topics where you saw port requests being honored? I'm not aware of us having ever done port opening on free hosting unless it was -supposed- to be open and was closed by accident (SMTP's a good example).

Thanks for replt livewire.Well firewall exception requests have definitely been honoured in a few cases. Port requests... Well some have been escalated...I am ready to pay for the port. What would you charge to open the port? I don't want a paid account as I'll have very few visitors and will use almost no disk space and bandwidth...Can something be done? And it'll be fine if only outgoing connections are allowed.I understand why ports are kept closed. But this is is not going to harm you.

technotiger53: I am afraid port openings are only possible for paid hosting. If you need to use the Port, then you will need to buy paid hosting.

I think x10Premium will allow you to do this, not sure though. x10VPS will definitely allow you to do this.
x10Premium starts from $3.95/month and x10VPS starts from $6.71/month (depending on package and payment rate)

Hmm... But those rates apply only if I pay for three years in advance. As I already mentioned, my needs are not enough to buy a premium hosting. I'll barely get any traffic or use any disk space. Are there any x10 resellers? Or woudn't it be fine if I just transfer funds to the staff or admin who opens the port for me on free hosting?

    Hello,

This is not possible on free hosting, as the port you require is not needed by the other 99% of users on your server. You'd need a VPS to have full control over the administration of a server, as settings on free are server-wide and cannot be done just for you.

Re: Request To Open A Port(please read)

The escalated tickets were prior to it being made known to our volunteers that we don't open ports on free hosting. As for the x10 resellers, I don't believe we actually have a list of who they are, but based on the reseller page, they're not required to call themselves part of x10hosting either, so finding them may be difficult.

As for transferring funds to the staff/admin who opens the port, this wouldn't work as it is not possible to open a port on free hosting. I can understand this is going to be inconvenient, but it simply is not currently possible on free hosting, and as far as I'm aware there's no plans to begin allowing the opening of ports in the future.

A quick side note as well - I've reviewed the software you have installed, and determined it to be an SMS Bomber - what other software says "You bombed the receiver # times" after all, or repeats the sending of the message for no reason? This is not allowed on free, premium, vps, or any other x10hosting service as it's considered malicious and illegal under the x10hosting AUP:
    * Interference with service to any user, host or network including, without limitation, mail bombing, flooding, deliberate attempts to overload a system and broadcast attacks;
Relavent section is Internet Abuse, would count as flooding and deliberate attempts to broadcast attacks; as such this is now a moot point, since the account cannot be recovered for any reason.

This is literally just one of the reasons we don't open ports on demand. This ticket is now closed.
