Is file host link checker script allowed?

    Hi guys,

I am planning to make a bookmarklet that can check links from file, image, and possibly video hosts for availability. From what I have read, I may have to create a script on my site. Something like this one:

    http://www.phpclasses.org/package/4327-PHP-Test-links-from-rapidshare-megaupload-etc.html

    I
re-read the terms and I don't think I will be breaking any rules if I am to use such script as it merely checks links if it is available for downloading/viewing or deleted. Anyway, I still want to ask if it's allowed or not. Thanks.

I do not understand the purpose of the script, could you describe it?
Links that point elsewhere from your main website are permitted as long as the link is appropriate (ie. no adult content, etc)

The script will not be linking any warez and adult contents. The purpose is similar to this script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/101707

Once I installed that script on my browser, it will automatically check links from supported file hosts on a web page. The page will then be modified and green icons will be put after a live link and red icons for dead links. But my purpose is to remove the script on my browser and put it on my site; thus making my browser more responsive. That would result in me using bookmarklet instead of a browser extension.

It's a proxy, then (even if your only proxying HEAD requests and looking for a 200). That would definitely put you afoul of the ToS. It's one thing to have something that verifies the links on your own web pages and alerts you of dead links so you can repair/remove them; it's quite another to proxy your own browser requests through x10's servers -- that's specifically forbidden. (And many of the sites supported by the script you pointed to -- and the one that it is inspired by/based upon -- are dedicated porn/warez hosts, innocent spreadsheets need not apply.)
