Unable to write to htaccess

I have, for a while, been unable to access functions that require writing to .htaccess in my public_html folder, including redirects. I tried chmoding it from the defaults to 771, and it still gave the permission error. I don't know what is causing this, but I just haven't been able to write to .htaccess for some reason. My site url, should it be needed in this case, is ll2wiki.x10.mx. I will give any additional information if needed. Thanks.

Should be fixed; somewhere in there the .htaccess became owned by root instead of you. I also reset perms back to 755 to avoid a 500 Internal Server Error for incorrect permissions
