Unmetered (it was never "unlimited" -- one needs to take the word "reasonable" into account) space is still available if you actually need it and your site is in compliance with the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy. Most sites are text-heavy, and will never actually need anything close to 1GB, so most users will never see a difference (a gig is a LOT of text). It does kind of limit the number of full-length movies you can sneak onto a site, though, and the space request step is a reasonable check on that kind of abuse.
