    Website is down

I don't quite know what happened.

    Here are my details

    CPanel Username jjw1972
    Domain jeffwalters.x10hosting.com
    Hosting Package Ad-Free

All of a sudden when I try to access this page on my site:

    http://jeffwalters.x10hosting.com/domination.html

    I get this message:

    Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /domination.html on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Additionally I can't ftp or upload anything to it either.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeff Walters

Looks like you htaccess is messed up o.o Umm You can try editing it via FTP, but I suggest a account manager/admin do that if you can't.

    Re: Website is down

Well seeing that I currently don't know how to edit htaccess I guess I'll have to wait until I hear from the crew.

Hopefully I can learn how to do it so I'll be able to the next time.

Go into file manager, and check the permissions on that file, ensure its at 755 (Read/execute) for everyone.

    Re: Website is down

It's in the root of your website.
You can access it via FTP or via File Manager in CPanel

    Re: Website is down

    OK, now another question

Do I look in the Document Root or the Web Root (public_html/www) ?

    Is this .htaccess a file?

Does it reside in a folder? If so which one?

Just trying to narrow it down because I can't seem to find it at all, I see nothing named .htaccess anywhere.

    Could this be the problem?

    Re: Website is down

No. And, to view the .htaccess file you need to:
    a) Login to cPanel
    b) Click on file manager
    c) In the box that pops up, select the check mark [x] for wanting to view hidden files (dotfiles).

However, seeing as how you've never messed with the .htaccess file I find it hard to believe it's messed up.

    FOLLOW THIS: It'll work.
How do I use chmod in cPanel?
In the cPanel File Manager, you can see all the permissions in numeric format for all your files and folders. For folders, it's simply the only thing all the way to the right on the same line as the folder name. For files, you will see both the file size and the file permissions, in that order, to the right of the file name on the same line.

    To chmod a file:

    1. Click on the file's name.
    2. Click "change permissions" in the top right box on the page.
    3. In the top right box, you will get a bunch of checkboxes grouped by the type of permission as rows and who gets that permission as columns. eyeglasses Šejm Check the boxes for the type of permissions you want each section to have. The sections are labeled "user" (this is you, the owner), "group", and "world".
    4. Click the "Submit" button.

The file will now have the permissions you filled in.
Note: Do not fill in the numbers by hand in their boxes. This is because the File Manager only uses the checkboxes to set the permissions; it will not change those checkboxes if you type a number into the permission fields.

NOTE: You want to change the permissions to read/execute for all users. Otherwise, you WILL get a 403 page.

Thumbs up Re: Website is down

I shall never forget(provided I never get Alzheimers)

    Excellent response-10 thumbs up!

I just love answers that are clear and concise.

I now think my problem is related to maintenance on the server, as posted in another thread.

I shall wait for maintenance to finish.

    Grazie Grazie,

    Jeff Walters
