Game Server Questions

I'm curious. Is there anyone here who has/runs a game server or would like one? If you could, what kind of server would you run?

Is CS:S still that popular? How about servers for newer games like L4D/L4D2 or other first person shooters?

Game servers require a huge server resource usage.
Most people who run a considerably good gameserver may get HRU suspension.
Also clean gameservers are not free (mostly) hence I did not seen (m)any using a gameserver.

I'm pretty sure I didn't say anything about hosting it here at x10. I'm just curious what are popular games that use servers right now. That's all.

Counter Strike I'd say is still fairly popular. Not as popular as it was, say four years ago but is definitely still there. Team Fortress 2 definitely has something going for it; heck x10 has it's own TF2 server which I do run alongside with two x10 Staff Members and it populates itself many nights.

What I would do though is search for the newest game that is coming out which will support PC gaming and allow dedicated server binaries to be released. Do this and be one of the first few servers online, and you'll get your server populated in no time.
