How to choose a colour scheme?

I've got a template/ layout I'm happy with.

The only thing I'm not happy with is the actual colour scheme. At the moment the colours that the designer used (other than the footer - I changed that) all go together.

I'm looking to use the colours red and blue because the site is mostly about things in the United Kingdom.

I'm just not sure how to make a decent colour scheme out of it though??

There are some color scheme design webapps you can use:

• Color Scheme Designer v3
• Color Scheme Designer v2
• Color Wizard
• 25 color scheme generators

They're based on color theory so won't give you a solely red/blue color scheme (red and blue don't have the right relationship to each other), but you should still be able to get something you can use.

If you're interested in really understanding color and how they interact with each other you have to study the color theory. Follow link below to get some basic views on the subject.
