Hi, I'm brand new here, so please excuse the dumb question, if my company name is example, can i request a domain of http://www.x10hosting.com/example

No. That's one of x10's own domains.

You can request & get (if it's available) a domain called www.example.x10hosting.com (or www.example.pcriot.com etc).

Or you can pay a registrar to register www.example.com for you, & then set the DNS to redirect & host your website for free at x10 (that way, it will still be called www.example.com)
