"A forum post should be like a skirt; long enough to cover the subject but short enough to keep things interesting."
Probably a silly question, but could I ask: What's the point of trying to get all this posting-for-the-sake-of-posting?
Is it to encourage other (more genuine) posters to join your forums (ie. give them a kick-start) or does it do something else, such as improve your google rankings in some way?
Why not make up a few bogus usernames & slap a load of posts into your own forums? ;)

Well to to your "phrase" people do this because if other users find out about this forum and look at they will try and see if it is an active forum or not. Usually they choose if the forum is active they will join if it isn't then decline joining the forum. Also "slapping" a few bogus usernames won't do any good. People get smarter these days ya know. Also it takes too much time and work.
Well to answer your last question: Some people do, do this mainly as what I stated above to get more members or from what you said to improve good rankings.
