I haven't attacked anyone personally. I have attacked the nonsense some people are posting here.

I saw your comment about bible-bashing and 'what you're really trying to preach' as offensive, but I can deal. In the realms of attacking people online, that's quite mild.

The "thin veil" comes from the way religion is first being used by the posters as some sort of moralistic reference point, & then quietly dropped & instead their viewpoint then suddenly gets backed up by ridiculous, spurious facts.

Fair enough. I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I will openly admit that my religious beliefs define my views on porn and sex much more than studies or statistics. If a study says that something is ok, but my religion says that it's not, I'll still refrain from doing it.

However, after 4 days of reading the sort of responses it got, & the repeated, one-sided, biased, unfounded nonsense that was being written, I could bite my tongue no longer. Most people have completely ignored the actual topic, about kids accessing porn, & have used it as an opportunity to spam the thread with comments about all porn being harmful, even to/ for consenting adults.

I somewhat disagree that this discussion has been one-sided. I think the majority of people that have posted have said that porn is overall detrimental, but I've seen quite a few posts in here that have sided for porn being perfectly fine and normal, and the reasons given were well reasoned and thoughtful, going beyond the 'it's porn, it looks good, and I like it' that you normally get from these kinds of discussions.

Providing porn to children is already illegal (in most countries that I'm aware of) so the problem is in the enforcement. This is what you could be discussing. To instead attack what consenting adults do, is to take a totally different stance.

I agree, this would make quite the interesting, if not also depressing, discussion, especially in light of the two people that have posted in this thread admitting that they are minors who look at porn online.

Why are you not attacking the computer gaming industry? Many games are violent & consistently played by children, usually with the implicit consent of their parents. This is despite the body of evidence which shows that violent imagery can be more damaging to a child's upbringing than images of nudity.

Can you verify this? Not to be picky or anything, but verifiability is being raised as an issue here.

It has long been regarded by experts that the violence in TV, movies or, say, rap music, can be more harmful than nudity.

Again, which experts? I'm not saying I think you're wrong, just asking for verification of the claims you're making.

So why isn't this the bigger issue for you? Some might think that it is because those with religious views are prudish & have hang-ups about sex, whilst they have less of a problem with violence - as demonstrated historically by the endless wars being fought in the name of religion.

I would think it has more to do with this being a thread about porn. If this were a thread about violence in video games, we probably would be discussing the points you're bringing up. Also, try not to lump all religious people into the 'prudish and have hang ups about sex' group. Don't get me wrong, many do, but not all as is implied.

As I said, you can't lump all types of porn in together.

Neither can you lump all religious people together. (ok, that's the last defense of religion comment from me, this is a thread about porn, not religion)

I am unlikely to post again in this thread. I find it too annoying when people make comments which are not based on logic or reason, especially when they are completely off-topic from the original post. And I have already ranted on for long enough - I wouldn't mind if I was getting paid for this, but I'm not!

To be honest, that would be a shame. There has been a lot of good, fair discussion in this thread so far, and I have a feeling that you could add a side to the discussion that hasn't been represented yet.

As I re-read this post, I'm seeing that it's a bit more confrontational than I would prefer, but I'm having trouble rewording it in a better way. zen-r, you make some very good points, but it's shrouded by what seems to be a general disliking for anything religious. You accuse those who say porn is detrimental of not providing sources, and it's true. We haven't provided a great number of sources because some of our reasons are indeed based in our religion. Rather than write somethings like 'well, in Ezekiel 24:8 (I'm putting in a verse at random, btw) it says that porn is evil, and anyone who looks at it shall surely perish', but it's easier and sometimes less offensive to just say 'I believe it's wrong'. As porn is a moral issue, I think religious beliefs are valid. However, as you rightly point out, that doesn't give me or anyone else the right to tell you that you shouldn't look at porn either, because you don't share the same beliefs as I do.

In summary - porn is bad because God said so

As for my opinion, well I thinks theres an age limit where children shouldn't be allowed (whether they actually do as thier told by thier parents is a diffent topic) but that should be an age set by the parents, some kids mature earlier than others and I would say maybe no younger than 10 but I would certainly consider allowing my children to watch porn at the age 10, as a parent its your resposibilty to educate your children not just the school.

With this said I wouldn't just allow my children free reign on the internet but I would gladly search out certain pornographic material for my children to watch and also explain sex with them.

Many parent these days are either too embarrassed or ashame to explain sex to thier children the problem is children grow up a quicker now then they did say 30/40 years ago and a lot of this is down to television and technology.

As a parent you should know whether your child is ready/mature enough to discuss/watch porn, if you cant tell when your kids are ready then you need to be asking yourself if your a responsible parent!.

My last comment is simple, better they do it with your knowledge than without ;)

Or did you know that, if such a thing does happen...their mothers/fathers find out, and just leave it alone...and actually DON'T TALK TO THEIR CHILD ABOUT IT so it happens and happens/without the kid knowing it was happening in real life, not in their dreams....

Well for the learning from friends thing....My friend, and his neighbor were both 7 years old. Their parents went to the store, leaving the kids together...(my friend=male...friends neighbor=female)...well too bad my friends dad left the magazines under the bed...kids like playing under the bed...my friend, (who NEVER RECEIVED THE "TALK") and his neighbor, a female...actually tried these positions...at AGE 7!... I guess maybe giving them the talk at age 7 or whenever they understand you...would be best...Is this a joke? Nope, turns out, my friends father and mother did the dame thing!! ????

You haven't explained what you think I wrote was offensive. Please do so - but bear in mind that where my comments have been more "direct" than usual, it has been in response to the previous poster's mis-information & the fact that they keep trying to hijack this thread & take it completely off topic.

Yes, they are my opinions (I have sources of evidence, but as no-one else has been bothering to post any, why should I go to the trouble of sourcing & quoting mine). You are entitled to disagree with my views. But please be specific. Which of them do you believe was wrong?
