can someone tell me how to get top rank in google, i am a newbie for websites.

Link to other sites
Make other sites link back to your site

top rank? If you're indexed in google chances are you are already top ranked, albeit for a very specific search term. Vigge-sWe's advice is good, that should be enough to get you high up on google, but that only works if you have good content and design which is the main thing attracting visitors, and also getting them to then link to your site. I'm already rank 4 and 12 for two general search times for my site, and that's from only having links on the X10 forums. And that's with only very little content so far.

having changeable content like blogs or tutorials
offering free stuff
Optimizing Meta tags and Meta description
Paying attention to every page of yours
Ask yourself: How long would you stay on your page and how deep would you go?

Do an external optimization:
Get indexed in reliable and top search engines and their business directories.
Get a place on Google Maps and a google account
Get listet on Channel pages like Youtube and Dailymotion etc
Become a member of forums related to your niche and start posting
Comment on blogs which you seriously have read and understood.
Dont Spam - if somebody asks you to spamhis page or post, its something else :D
Give in order to recieve.

Those are just some little tips. Do some studies on SEO and then get to work. Expect about a year to seriously go up! Nobody is right who says that you can have top rankings for your desired keywords within 24 hours. Good quality takes time.
