well the guestbook service i had been using for 5 years+ went down (scripthost.com)

apparently way too many spamming bots posted spam messages on guestbooks, lagging up the server and driving many users nuts.. so all that spamming has resulted in the immediate shut down of all guestbook services.. its going to cost money now

well, im quite the cheap@$$, so id like to know if anyone has any recommendations of good free guestbook websites (i.e. no ads, customizeable cascading stylesheets, etc). the first 25 sites i googled for guestbooks were all LOUSY.

im also open to php scripts since that too could be worth a shot
too bad i dont know php as well as nedren lol.. im still working on the EXTREME basics of it..

if you knew PHP as well as nedren then you wouldn't even be posting.. =) if you had his knowledge then you would just make your own guestbook, i do belive there is a "viper guestbook" that is inside cpanel, under "fantastico"

I'm not sure of any actual names, but you should be able to find a decent one.

If I were you I would google for a "tutorial" on how to make one with PHP. (Well like, if I didn't know how to make one myself.) That's me though..

Yes, Viper is a good one which you can install via Fantastico so there's almost no work involved. But if you want a third-party guestbook, try http://signmyguestbook.com/

I would go with making your own, by finding some tutorials first.

I usually like customizing stuff to match everything.
