    PC Maintenance Programs

Obviously everybody wants their computer to be as fast and "healthy" is it can be in order to provide the best user-end experience and highest productivity. Unfortunately, even everyday internet-browsing and general computer use can bog down your PC's speed, so in return there are hundreds of programs available today (some free, some not) that aim to counteract these actions and restore your PC's "health".

I am just curious what programs other people use. Here's my line-up:
    • Norton Anti-Virus/Internet Security 2006
    • Ad-Aware SE Personal
    • Spybot Search & Destroy
    • TweakNow Registery Cleaner STD
    • CCleaner 1.28
They are all free aside Norton, and I hardly ever use Spybot (it never really finds anything that my other programs don't use). I highly recommend CCleaner to get rid of junk/broken files on your computer.

    Anybody else?

None. Well, on Linux anyway. In case some people haven't noticed, PC doesn't mean Windows. I'm looking at you, commercial game developers.

On Windows, I don't need these either. But I have Spybot and AVG. No real reason. It's a just in case kind of thing. I still don't use them, because I don't have any spyware or trojans.

    Re: PC Maintenance Programs

oh yeah to add to my list, i occassionally run chkdsk /f; in fact today i had to run it since i had a power failure while defragging, which fragged a whole TON of my drive

took about 10 minutes for chkdsk /f to finish, and then it took 5 minutes or so to defrag and make sure everything was okay

    dodged a bullet there

    Re: PC Maintenance Programs

I use Norton Internet Security, Ad-Aware SE, Windows Defender BETA, Windows Live OneCare, and of course, the general disk defrag and disk cleanup that Windows provides.
