    Hosting Internet Provider

    Hi,

if i was to setup my own hosting company where do i go about getting my isp from? do i pick an everyday broadband or do you have to get an isp wihich is specific to hosts. And, also what sort of upload speeds are required for say 1000 accounts. I understand setting the up but not the price and connectivity. If anyone knows what sort of upload speeds does x10hosting have?

You just need to find the right ISP, some might offer special permissions (ie. bandwidth, etc.) aimed towards web hosts. Also, you have to make sure your ISP does not prohibit offering a web hosting service.
Seven: This rule is so underrated, keep your family and business completely separated.

i think there are two requirements for selecting an isp(for servers):
    1. bandwidth. depending on the services you will run on the server, you shouldneed at least a 512kbits connection.
    2. static & public ip: Some isps have the clients behind a NAT. to stablish a server, you should be connected directly to the internet(public IP). The static IP is optional, because there are dynamic DNS solutions. but if you ahve a dynamic IP, you can manage your DNS your own way.

also, you should check for another of the isp conditions, such as the percentage of the bandwith the guarantee you to have(recommended 50% and up), the permission to offer web hosting & other paid services(as mentioned by Cynical), and minor details.

hoe this information can be usefull.

    Well,

you say 512kbits so you mean the equivalent of 64Kilobytes/s ? Because to me that seems awfully slow. I tried hosting my site on 364Kbit about and it took around 4 seconds to load. Also, could you like setup a host at home? or wouly you need your own building. what sort of specification of machine would i need to host around 1000 site and also to host 1 site (my own). Finally what operating system would you recommend. I think linux because it is free, there is a lot of free software, and it is not a system hog. Thanks
