    Modems/routers

    do i need to leave them on?? i usally turn them off everytime i close the computer becuase its connected tothe computer switch and why is it good to leave it on?

    You should probably leave them on. Thats what i do. It depends how long you are away from your comp. A few days or more you should turn off. If its just an afternoon I say leave them on and overnight too. It's really just your choice though.

    Well my ISP requires mine to be on always, its got a built in BBU (battery-backup unit) that lasts 24 hours, as it serves us Internet, Phone, and Cable out of one modem unit, so if the power goes out i Can use the phone, thats the BBU main purpose.

    If its connected to 1 pc, just shut it off, there is no advantage to leave it on.

    I usually shut off the modem/router when the computers are off. No point keeping them up, since they'll just suck the electricity anyway.

    I hate the humming noise of electronics running, but I have to leave mine on if I want to be able to use the computer when I wake up. When my modem turns off, it generally takes quite a few attempts to get it connected properly again.
