    Post Are you left-handed?

Today, while getting ready, I was thinking of this thing... that most discriminated persons in this world are not blacks, nor dalits nor even slaves, they are the left handed people

And while thinking I found that left-hand people are being discriminated in all sorts of way. Some of examples as proof are:-

    1) Kick of bikes or scooters are always on right side & that's because the inventor must have been right-handed & thought since right side is more powerful so kick should be in right side, completely ignoring the lefties.

    2) A very common example is screw. The screws which are available in market are such that they unscrew in right direction & screw in left direction, that's also because its more natural for righties to unscrew in right direction but its visa-versa for lefties. Washing machines timers also have same problem.

    3) This is my personal example, my microwave oven & many which I have seen have control panel on their right, obviously, so that person standing in front of it can operate it easily(of course that is valid only for righties)

    4) See the keyboard by which you are typing, there are more keys provided to right hand side in the form of home keys etc. & numeric keys.

Who knows some where some one may have died just because of this discrimination?

So, tell me all you lefties-- the left handed people, all the discrimination you may have faced by this majorly right handed world?

And righties --- Defence yourself & give answers to our allegations.

    Also, answer this small poll.

Although I'm left handed, but oddly enough I've never been able to use many left-hand-exclusive things, i.e. left handed scissors

    Re: Are you left-handed?

My school has an "old building" and a "new building". The desks in the old building are that old kind where you can only get in from one side (the left) and the place to rest your arm goes along the right. These were uncomfortable for my brother, because he's left handed and while he wrote, his left arm and elbow awkwardly hung off the left side, which had been shortened so people could get in the desk easier. He ended up getting a new desk from the new building to sit in.

My brother uses his right hand when using a computer mouse, though. I think he just learned it that way, and I don't think he ever had any difficulty. If he used his left hand, he'd have to not only switch the mouse over to the other side while using computers at school, but also ask an administrator to switch the mouse buttons in the settings, since they restrict students' accounts from accessing any settings. Hopefully no school would refuse to switch the mouse buttons for left-handed people...

I can't use left handed scissors either. It's because I learned on right handed ones and you have to pull in with your thumb while cutting to make them work. When I use lefty scissors, I'm in such a habit of pulling in with my thumb that it causes the scissors to open up and not cut. :happysad:

I saw on TV once that left handed people statistically speaking, die younger because they are more prone to equipment related accidents. I've since heard that that is an urban myth, so who knows. Most things in this world are designed for right handed people.

Buying guitars. Your selection is limited from at least a thousand down to about a hundred, maybe a little more. Not to mention, the prices are higher, sometimes by several hundred.

I might be a righty, but how hard is it to press buttons on a microwave? Come on!

It isn't discrimination, it's only productivity. There are some dimensions and settings that can fit +90% of the population. Why would they switch everything? to hear right-handed people call at discrimination? Would you be ready to pay the extra-cost for creating and organizing something for left handed people? If you are, then I'm sure some company can do something for you but if you want to pay the lower price possible, companies just can't afford using other machines to create other products.

At our school they check a box and any computer that person goes on will get left handed settings. :P

Nobody said it was hard. It's just inconvenient. A right handed person can stand in front of a microwave and push buttons but for a left hander they awkwardly move their hand across to the other side, or just stand more to the right.

I frequently use my left hand to open the refrigerator. The handle is on the right side, but you can't open it while standing in front so it makes sense to just stand to the right of it and use my left hand (closest) to pull it open, and let it swing out to the left.
